The case for fewer things when you travel long

A short piece on why our most-photographed residences are also our emptiest.

You can tell when a residence has been designed by someone who's actually lived in one for a month — and when it's been dressed for a photo shoot.

The lived-in ones are emptier. More counter space. More breathing room. Fewer throw pillows that end up on the floor. Softer lighting in the evening.

The NOK brief is the same for every residence: **nothing extra, nothing missing**. That line does a lot of work. It means we ship fewer decorative objects, and more of what actually matters — better mattresses, better pans, thicker towels, quieter appliances.
